Small Island Update

Small IslandIt is hard to believe but it really looks like the renovation of the small island will take place this fall. Thanks to Bill Boria who has been coordinating this effort on behalf of the Nature Center, FLWF and Chautauqua county
Bill has reported that project will begin around October 16th Please note to achieve this the lake will begin to be lowered on October 6th. He has received bids for the work and a permit has been granted The total project budget is projected at $66,000 This includes $14,000 alone for the limestone rock.
A staging area has not yet been determined though it will probably be in the downtown area. Dave Calvert and Jeff Homer will work with Bill Boria and represent the FLWF throughout this project. Depending on the weather it is expected to take about a month to complete the project. The project is now complete - awaiting the spring for shoreline plantings. Click here to see the work.

The Buoys of Summer

workers    Every year - twice a year - a hardy band of board members ventures forth to deposit navigation buoys in the lake (to warn you of potential hazards throughout the summer boating season) Then, out they go again at the end of the season to retrieve the buoys before the winter sets in. This year, as always, was no exception.
Led by Dick Watrous; Jeff Horner and Rick Vonk went forth and retrieved the buoys - with Dave Calvert and his crew retrieving some from the North Pond - to mark the end of another successful and safe season of boating. The use of the weed harvester (piloted by Dennis Luce) for transport worked out well. Next year the process will be resumed - another example of your association's volunteer officers working for you. Hats off to our "Buoy Boys".
